American Logistics Awards Disabilities Conference Scholarship

There must be something in the water in Illinois because another lucky winner from the Prairie State was announced this week. Betsy Schulthess, transportation safety coordinator for St. Charles Community Unit School District 303 in Charles, will be attending this year’s National Conference and Exhibition on Transporting Students with Disabilities & Preschoolers thanks to a scholarship from specialized transportation provider American Logistics.

Schulthess’ passion for her work was obvious in both her application for the scholarship and during a phone call with American Logistics’ Chris Thomas.

“I am honored to host her this year,” said Thomas, the company’s manager.

Her daily duties include overseeing the safety and security of the district’s 14, 650 students and 140 drivers and assistants. Schulthess also keeps a close eye on the special education safety requirements for each of the special education buses and supervises the bus evacuation drills for the all of the 17 schools in the district.

“It is my focus, a passion, to relate/understand/learn/practice/educate for all the right reasons….I want to be the best for myself and the community I service,” wrote Schulthess in her application.

The 19th National Conference and Exhibition on Transporting Students with Disabilities and Preschoolers is slated for March 5-10, 2010. More information is available at Edupro Web site.
