Blue Bird Lifts Curtain on Newest Model

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Blue Bird unveiled its new Type D All American school bus before an applauding crowd at the National Association trade show.

“We listened to the marketplace; we listened to all of you and took all of that information into developing this new bus. What we have here is probably the very best bus the industry has ever seen,” said Bill Danner, vice-president of Blue Bird sales, before lifting the curtain around the new bus.

According to Blue Bird, the Porsche Company aided in the user-oriented redesign.

The latest offering features design and ergonomics-oriented changes, including a 33 percent larger windshield and a larger rear emergency exit on the forward-engine version of the bus. The bus also features a one-piece bow and coach-style profile. Inside, the design team eliminated the driver’s platform and repositioned some switches and pedals to improve driver comfort. Passenger seats are now 28 inches high, exceeding the requirements of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s recent final rule, according to Blue Bird Spokesperson Ryan Fisher.
