Blue Bird Recall Tied to Wheelchair Power Cable Insulation

Those who have already purchased 2010 model year Type C Vision school buses equipped with wheelchair lifts may have noticed a problem, and the manufacturer announced today that it is working on fixing it.

The company is recalling 180 of these conventional school bus models that were manufactured between May 12 and Sept. 10 of this year because the wheelchair lift power cable may come in contact with the engine exhaust manifold. If this occurs, the company said the power cable insulation would melt and increase the chances for an electrical short and a vehicle fire.

In the next month, Blue Bird is expected to notify customers and dealers of recall R09PW [NHTSA Campaign ID number 09V441000] and that the company will inspect each affected vehicle’s wheelchair lift power cable and repair it if necessary.
