Engine Stalls Subject of IC Bus Recalls


Navistar, Inc., the parent company of IC Bus, announced it is recalling 3,375 buses to fix a cap on the return fuel valve that may fall off.

In doing so, Navistar expanded a recall that was announced earlier this month to fix a similar problem affecting more than 2,000 IC Bus BE Series and CE Series school buses that were manufactured from May 27, 2010 through March 8 of this year. The manufacturer said air could be drawn into the fuel system if the return fuel valve cap comes off. This could result in an engine hard start, no start or stall.

Two of the six models affected by the latest NHTSA recall campaign are also the BE Series and CE Series. It was unknown how many of the newly recalled vehicles were school buses, as the recall listing did not give a break down by model. The other IC vehicles being recalled are commercial buses, the AC Series and HC Series, and Navistar trucks, the International 4300 Transtar and the International Terrastar.

The model years of the newly recalled vehicles are 2011 and 2012, manufactured from Feb. 25, 2010 through April 4 of this year. The vehicles are all powered by the MaxxForce 7 engine.

Navistar said it would be notifying vehicle owners that dealers will replace the return fuel valve cap free of charge, beginning on or around June 30 of this year.
