PLANO, Texas – Tyler Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: TYL) has completed the purchase of 11 Cornell Road in Latham, New York, as the new site for its transportation solutions operation, which provides the K-12 market with transportation technology, including Versatrans®, Traversa®, andTyler Drive™, its newest mobile solution for school bus drivers.
The facility at 11 Cornell Road is the former headquarters of the New York State Nurses Association in the Airport Park office complex near the Albany International Airport. The 43,000-square-foot structure was built in 1994, and while state-of-the-art then, is in need of some repairs and upgrades. The building will include features, such as:
- An open design with collaborative spaces conducive for software development
- Numerous skylights and large windows to allow for natural lighting
- A campus-like atmosphere with four office areas and a 10,000-square-foot conference center
- Two interior courtyards and 10-acre wooded lot
Tyler plans extensive renovations to the facility with a move in late 2017. The renovations will include updates to the building’s mechanical systems, removing interior walls to further enhance the open feeling of the building, an employee exercise facility and covering one of the courtyards to create a four-season atrium.
The building purchase demonstrates Tyler’s continued commitment to Albany’s Capital District. Tyler entered the K-12 transportation market in 2008 via the acquisition of Versatrans Solutions. Since then, the transportation staff has nearly doubled in size, and revenues have more than tripled, making Tyler the leading provider in this space. In just the past five years, Tyler’s local office has grown from 70 to 110 people, and the company plans to hire 15 positions for the Latham office in 2017.
“There is amazing talent in the Capital District, and we are committed to hiring exceptional people locally,” said Ted Thien, vice president and general manager for Tyler’s transportation group. “The building is exactly what we needed to support our current growth, and the renovations will create space for approximately 175 people.”
After several years of strong growth, Tyler needed more space. The company added almost 200 new school districts as clients in 2016, converting the more than half to Tyler’s new product, Traversa.
The New York State Nurses Association building turned out to be the perfect space for the expanding company, and its location close to the Albany International Airport is convenient for employees. Tyler’s transportation customers are spread throughout 47 states and five Canadian provinces, so the team needs easy access to the airport. Tyler was already familiar with the building space by the time it was up for sale, as the New York State Nurses Association would allow local businesses to lease its conference center, which Tyler has used many times for offsite meetings. Once Tyler takes up official residence in the building in late 2017, it plans to re-open the conference center which includes a 200-seat stadium style meeting room, four conference rooms and a 40-seat board room.
